Designs, Blueprints, and Construction Consultation
I have been involved as the "Architectural Designer" in over forty projects using tire-wall construction. My design and construction experience helps you build your own tire-house. I'm available for consulting on your project by phone, e-mail, or in person at your site.
My plan-set prices are based on my hourly estimate to create them. Thus, final
costs depend on what you want. From a sketch and a brief conversation, I can
quote a price for your plans. So far, they have ranged between $600 for a
complete basic model, to $4,000 for a custom two-level, 4,000+ft² home. My
plan sets are created with Windows compatible CAD (computer-aided-drafting)
software and include all the details you would expect to see in 'normal' house
plans. All dimensional, finish and material information is supplied, but
my plan sets are not a Do-It-Yourself manual, i.e. they assume that the builder possesses the
skills and knowledge necessary to read the plans and construct the house in the
first place. A "D" Size (22" x 34") digital .PDF (Adobe
Acrobat Reader) file for each sheet will be delivered as the finished product.
These files can be turned into paper copies at any large format copier "Copy
Shop" (like Kinko's).
Errors fixed free. Changes made at clients expense. No actual CAD files (.DWG for AutoCAD or
any other CAD program) will be delivered, under any circumstances.
I give a free, four-hour consultation when my client is ready to start their
plans. At that time I will have quoted a price and I take a 50%
non-refundable retainer fee/deposit to start/work and finish. The balance of the quoted fee is due at delivery of plans
(.PDF files). I give
my plan-set clients free telephone consults for the life of their
project. See the F.A.Q. for more info!
Note: these are NOT "Earthships"®
(a
copyrighted name enforced by Michael Reynolds), but rammed-earth tire-structures. While based on principles seen in the book "Earthship", our designs
have an emphasis on significant modifications to improve their function and form while enhancing the client's vision of their future home and facilitating custom client-designs.
Also, see the "Helpful Hints" page. It includes tips and
insights into building a residence using rammed-earth tire-walls
as structural elements of residence construction. These insights
acquired during the process of building our home (plus 25 years experience as an Aerospace Engineer), designing and
being involved in the planning and/or construction of numerous other
tire-houses, since 1991. Always check your local building
requirements first.
