Another Beautiful Example of What Can Be Done With

Tire-building!

West of Pikes Peak @ 9,000 ft. altitude in Guffey, Colorado

View of "Gaia" from Southeast

"Gaia's" lower level is the Master Bedroom and office.  Tire retaining walls create a small porch off the Master Bedroom, a wildflower garden area viewed from bedroom and office windows, a spa deck with sunken wooden hot tub and a patio off the Great Room.

View to East from West Entry

Walkway from West entrance looking to the East.  Cabinet to the left houses a propane-fired on-demand water heater.  Bathroom entry is seen on the right with entry to Guest Bedroom beyond to the left.

Bathroom Looking to East

Walls are open at the top to allow for moisture and air circulation.

View to Southwest from Guest Bedroom.

Bath tub can partially be seen made from aluminum cans and mortar.

Kitchen Looking to the Northeast

Matching counter height chairs complement custom aspen cabinets.

Kitchen Looking West

Breakfast counter is part of a moveable central island.

Looking East From East Kitchen Entrance into Great Room

View of McIntyre Mountain and Pike's Peak through the Great Room windows.  The "rock pillar" at right consists of special quartz, amazonite and other rocks collected from nearby quarries.  East entry/exit to spa deck is just to the right of the extent of this picture.

View Northwest into Great Room from East Entry

Lantern lights are hand made by two local artists.  Wall mural is "paper clay" sculpture: a gift of a neighbor depicting the first stage of building ... the taking down of pine trees in order to clear Southern space for the solar power system.  Lizard in upper left corner of picture is another local friend's sculpture gift.  Opening in the tire wall between kitchen and dining areas affords food pass-through and view looking East from kitchen to Pike's Peak.

Lower Level Office/Library/Meditation Space

The rustic intent of the owner/builder is accented by leaving bark on the rough pine window trim, throughout.

Master Bedroom Looking Northeast

The bed is raised to provide a view of the sunrise over Pike's Peak out the East window, as well as providing ample storage underneath.

Master Bedroom Greenhouse Looking West

Indoor constructed wetlands waters plants using greywater from upper level as well as the small sink seen in the right background.
